Obviously, there is no such thing as the best cars and truck or truck. That is to say, universally ideal. Each of us has our own specific tastes and preference. That’s one of the best features of this hobby, seeing what others do in constructing their flights. The colors, driveline combinations, and fascinating developments are a feast for credit and the eye to great old racer engineering.

old trucks

When it comes to vintage trucks (Chevy being my favorite) the mechanical elements practically have to be considerably upgraded to make the vehicle safe and enjoyable for today’s genuine world driving. Having grown up in Abilene, Texas in the ’70s, I saw numerous trucks from the ’50s and ’60’s still doing everyday responsibility. In some way, it seemed to me that when the old fella passed, it would just be correct to bury the truck with him.

Personally, I always loved the rounded lines of the ’48 to early ’55’s. For many years I have owned more than a few of these. The purchase of each one has been well spaced to permit me time to forget that they look more fun than they really are. Driving them in their initial state resembles a mild workout. Nevertheless, they are tough to resist. The reality is America was built on the backs of these iron workhorses. Countless people can still associate with them in some way or another and this makes them among the most popular tuck body styles of all time.

With a couple of years under my belt considering that my last “rounded body” truck, I began to try to find another. This time, nevertheless, I would target a substantially ended-up truck– one with an upgraded contemporary driveline and would minimally consist of modern-day suspension, brakes, and COLD air, one that would just need “minor tweaking” to fit me. Having taken on a full-scale “resto-mod” build of a ’65 Chevy C-10 (pictured below), I had no desire to duplicate the procedure. The memory of the cash and time invested was too fresh. This time I would do it the simple way– come behind the next guy who had his numerous hours and cold cash buried in it like a lost treasure with no clear map to recover it.

As luck would have it, I identified my dream truck a full 2 years before I would own it. When I came upon the coolest 5-window 1952 truck I had actually ever seen, I was attending the 2006 Goodguys show in Texas. ‘It had a high quality, but very “downplayed look” to it. With suede black paint (sometimes called “satin black,” or “hot rod black”) and a classy “traditional” theme. Total with salt flat mags and pinstriping it was visually ideal. Like most stuff I want, it was not for sale. I spent time enough time to satisfy the owner and I took the picture below to remind me must the owner ever call; and, yes, I shopped it on the spot.

Not having a “For Sale” sign has never been a deterrent to me making a deal. I have found out that things modification and cars not presently for sale can become for sale at any given point. It is always great to be on the shortlist of potential buyers. What actually made me desire this truck was the double verification I obtained from both my Dad and my son, BOTH of whom saw it independent of me (and each other) and concluded it was the bomb! Little did I understand that it would remain in my garage 2 years later on.

This was real with my dream truck. While the cosmetics, consisting of paint, are as great as a guy can make them, the driveline was not on par with the rest of the truck. It tuned out that the cosmetics on this truck were done by one of the best-known repair shops in Texas, a location called Hatfield’s Restorations.

The final action was to make it my own with a few visual modifications. I have always liked bed rails in these old trucks but desired something different from the typical wood planks.

My better half and I had some really fantastic trip in it. Everywhere we went individuals admired the satin black paint and the custom bed rails. Most likely my preferred aspect of the truck was the greatly insulated cabin and the concealed air conditioning. I reside in Texas where a/c is a need to and I am of an age where a rather comfy cabin is the favored way to travel.

The more roadway time you log in to one of these vintage cars the more called in you end up being on what works best for you. I believed I had finally discovered the ideal fat-fendered Chevy truck. The lesson I found out with this truck was that “satin black paint”, while very pleasing aesthetically, is difficult to keep tidy. My next dream truck will require less cleaning.
